The Nationals provide a boost for Regional Visitor Centres

Nationals Statement

Nationals WA candidate for Moore, Shane Love has welcomed a funding boost for regional Visitor Centres to ensure WA’s tourism industry continues to thrive.

Mr Love said The Nationals WA, should they win the balance of power at the upcoming election, will inject more than $1 million from Royalties for Regions into regional Visitor Centres to help them service tourists and local tourism businesses.

“Tourism is a valuable part of regional economies and is a significant driver of growth so it is really important centres get the support they need.”

The Moore electorate has many tourism attractions including the Pinnacles in Cervantes, the Coral Coast, the Wildflower Way, the stunning Kalbarri gorges, and the Lancelin Ocean Classic to name just a few.

“This means money will go directly to promoting our unique local attractions,” he said. Mr Love said investment in regional Visitor Centres would complement the $40 million Royalties for Regions had already invested in regional events and regional tourism
marketing.

“The Nationals WA have invested more than $6 billion from Royalties for Regions into more than 2500 regional projects,” he said.

“Many of these projects focus on improving amenities, infrastructure and beautifying regional towns which helps to make our regional towns more attractive places to visit.

“We want to better support regional Visitor Centres to continue to play this vital role as the first-stop for visitors.”

Mr Love said The Nationals WA support promoting cooperation and better aligning the Tourism Regions with the Regional Development Commissions to enable closer collaboration between Regional Development and Tourism. “It’s a simple measure that will make sure regional visitor centres can best position themselves to promote their region and attract more tourists.” Mr Love said the funding boost for Visitor’s Centres was another reason why it was essential that The Nationals retain the balance of power at next week’s State election to protect Royalties for Regions.
