$800,000 Works at Castlereagh School in Willetton

Liberal Statement December 14

Dr Mike Nahan, MLA, Member for Riverton welcomed the State Government funding for Castlereagh School saying the new air conditioning of the school and the heating of its therapy pool would be great assets for the students with disabilities who attend there.

“Castlereagh is a purpose built special school for students with special needs aged from 4 to 18 years of age. Its focus is to help individuals reach their potential and live productive lives within our community. The new facility upgrades will help enhance the school and assist the staff to deliver their vital services,” said Dr Nahan.

“The pool is the hub of many individualised programs, including hydrotherapy for young students and those with physical needs, swimming for fitness and skill development. All of the aquatic based activities are run by qualified swimming instructors.”

“The preparation work for the upgrade to the air-conditioning and the pool is underway. Some minor maintenance has been
done and the removal of defunct equipment is underway. The bulk of the work, however, will turn the school into a building site and is scheduled to happen when the school is vacant over the Christmas break.”

“Since 2008, the Liberal - National Government has made an unprecedented $1.4billion investment in school infrastructure with 26 schools and 640 classrooms built.

We have also provided $52 million to ensure every child in WA benefits from being able to learn in an air cooled environment.”

“I have no doubt that when the works are complete early in 2013, they will result in an enhanced learning environment for the Castlereagh School’s students and its teachers.”
