Teacher Registration Board starts work

Ministerial Statement
The new body responsible for the ongoing registration of Western Australia’s teachers has started work in readiness for the 2013 education year.

The Teacher Registration Board (TRB) has replaced the WA College of Teaching (WACOT) in administering teacher registration and disciplinary matters, following a review of the Western Australian College of Teaching Act 2004 that identified a high level of teacher dissatisfaction with the management of the registration process.

Education Minister Peter Collier said the board would have responsibility for the registration of all school teachers in Western Australia, and oversee the expansion of compulsory registration for teachers in child care centres in the course of the next 18 to 24 months.

“The TRB has been driven by teachers and builds on efforts to ensure high standards in the teaching profession are set and met,” Mr Collier said.

“Registration remains essential in order to teach in WA schools, and all teachers currently registered under WACOT have had their registration automatically continued under the new Act.”

The #wa2013vote website will be kept online so politicians promises and statements can be checked until the end of next WA election in 2017, and after.
