Premiers Education Dollars Dont Add Up

Premier Barnett and Minister Collier recently released an announcement on additional Child Parent Centre support facilities at schools.

This was in addition to centres announced in the Western Australian Government budget for 2012/13.

The figure Barnett and Collier have given of a $48.7m investment simply do not add up for the 16 centres.

This equates to $3.04m per centre, which would seem extremely extravagant.

The latest announcement is for $19.9m for 6 centres, which is $3.31m per centre.

The Budget for 2012/13 had the cost for 10 centres announced in the Budget costed at $10.9, being $1.09m per centre, less than 1/3 of the cost of the latest announcement.

However the total 12/13 budget cost of 10.9m and Jan announcement of 19.9m only equal $30.8m.

This mean the $48.7m announcement has 17.9m dollars appearing from some fudging or incompetence with no explanation.

This 58% increase in unexplained $$ needs a comprehensive investigation and explanation by the Government, something is seriously wrong.
