Ellenbrook school to open two years earlier

Liberal Statement

Families in Ellenbrook North will benefit from a brand new secondary school built two years ahead of schedule thanks to State Government planning.

Education Minister Peter Collier said $54million had been allocated to build a new secondary school at Ellenbrook North.

“The school was originally scheduled to be built by 2019 but the popularity of the area has prompted the Government to bring forward funds so it will be completed two years earlier,” Mr Collier said.

“The Department of Education continually monitors population growth and the State Government recognised the need for another secondary school in the area in the near future.

“We have prioritised making high quality education available to all Western Australian children no matter where they live.

“Public school students are already learning in some of the State’s best facilities and we are continuing to build outstanding secondary schools with adult-style environments that are engaging and inviting.

“This is very exciting news for families, and developments like these ensure children have access to state-of-the-art schools throughout their schooling years.”

Planning will commence in early 2014 and it is anticipated construction of the first stage will be completed in time for the 2017 school year with a founding class of year 7 students.

The secondary school will eventually cater for students in years 7 to 12.

The first stage of construction will include eight general classrooms; administration block; science block; design and technology block; sporting facilities; and canteen
