Buswell caught lying again: Libs confused on public transport

Labor Statment

Today's revelations that a re-elected Liberal government would scrap plans for a rapid bus transit service to Ellenbrook was more evidence the current government cannot be taken seriously on any of its promises, Shadow Treasurer Ben Wyatt said today.

"Colin Barnett's heir apparent Troy Buswell has proven time and time again that he has no integrity. He cannot be trusted to lead Western Australia," Mr Wyatt said.

"Today he was caught out lying again, contradicting a frank admission by the current Premier, Mr Barnett, that the service would not proceed as planned."

Mr Wyatt said that as early as November 13 last year, Mr Buswell lied to the people of Ellenbrook by telling Parliament:

'We have not walked away from public transport for the people of Ellenbrook. We have invested significantly in upgrading the local bus network that services Ellenbrook and Aveley to the east.

We have committed to the development of the bus rapid transit system that will service the people of Ellenbrook for a long time to come..

The bus rapid transit system is a good solution for the people of Ellenbrook in the short to medium term.'

"This rank about face, along with Mr Barnett's infamous broken rail line promise, highlights the Liberal Party's total disregard and disrespect for the people of Ellenbrook and Perth's north eastern corridor," he said.

"Just last week, Mr Barnett walked away from the Liberal Party's promises to build the MAX light rail, the airport rail line and the Perth to Darwin Highway.

"The Liberal Party's public transport thought bubbles have exploded into thin air. Their public transport promises are in tatters.

"But what is even more disturbing is that a vote for Mr Barnett is really a vote for Troy Buswell.

"Mr Buswell has given Western Australia a massive $24 billion debt because of his wrong priorities.

"He will sell off Western Power and the Water Corporation to pay for that debt.

"Only WA Labor has committed to not privatising State assets.

"Only Mark McGowan and WA Labor will build METRONET and only METRONET will solve Perth's traffic congestion crisis."
