Barnett Exerts His Influence on Free Speech

Premier Colin Barnett's admission in the press that he may have played some role in the controversial Dutch MP Gert Wilders canceling a speaking engagement in Perth is cause for discussion.

Whether disgusted or sympathetic to Wilders views the right to free speech must be a sacred and protected right in Australia.

If Wilders was breaching the law or doing something illegal he should be tossed from the Country or State quickly.

However when the Premier states he interferes with free speech in one matter, the question then arises what other matters that are legal has the Premier sought to interfere in.

A high office of Premier is one that must be above reproach, fair, equitable and support Australian democratic principles.
