Mental Health Policies

The Socialist Alliance will ensure that mental health services are adequately funded

The prevalence of mental health issues is well known in the community, and it is predicted that depression will become the major cause of morbidity in the next decades. There is also a stigma attached to these conditions. Major primary intervention strategies, education and service networks will be established at workplaces, schools, and within communities to tackle these issues.

The Greens (WA) believe that:

  • all people who experience mental illness should be able to live free from stigma, discrimination and exclusion, and maximise their social and employment opportunities
  • all people who experience mental illness should have access to high quality mental health care, treatment and support that is tailored to meet their specific needs
  • the vital role of carers should be acknowledged, respected and supported
  • research and evaluation are crucial to reducing the incidence of mental health problems and improving outcomes for people experiencing and living with mental illness

The #wa2013vote website will be kept online so politicians promises and statements can be checked until the end of next WA election in 2017, and after.
