West Kimberley package to deliver on promises

Nationals Statement February 26

NATIONALS candidate for the Kimberley, MICHELE PUCCI, has today told how the $125million West Kimberley Package announced by Minister for Regional Development, Brendon Grylls, in Broome last week has been very well received by the wider community.

Michele Pucci said that it was an exciting, eclectic package that would greatly assist with the visions that local people, businesses and government were working towards for the West Kimberley region involving community, agriculture, recreation, tourism, housing, small business and industry.

Speaking specifically on a few of the components of the announcement, Ms Pucci said that it is her vision to see the Community Development Fund of $30million assist local groups such as the Jack and Jill playgroup in Broome who are currently unsure of the ongoing availability of their premises and support Circle House in their planning for future expansion.

“I also envisage that these funds will be utilised to assist with the Chinatown Revitalisation Project to deliver on promises of past recommendations to create a vibrant and commercially viable town centre.”

Ms Pucci said that throughout her campaign she had made it a priority to listen to the concerns and issues facing people of the Kimberley, and was pleased that the NATIONALS had listened to the voices of these people to deliver an additional $15million, on top of the already committed $35million, towards the Broome Boating Facility and $15million to establish a Northern Beef Industry Research Centre through Royalties for Regions.

“These two industries are a major component of the Kimberley economy. Whilst the boating facility will support recreational and commercial fishing and tourism for the region, the commitment of a Beef Industry Research Centre will ensure the entire beef supply chain is effective and efficient, with the centres working to support the development of new markets in conjunction with Kimberley pastoralists.”

Ms Pucci said that only the NATIONALS will deliver real benefits for regional Western Australia and has urged the people of the Kimberley to become defenders of Royalties for Regions on March 9.
