Agriculture has been the backbone of regional communities in Western Australia for more than a century.
 
If farmers are doing well they spend money in local shops and machinery dealerships. That creates more jobs – attracting people to towns, keeping shops and banks and doctors surgeries open, keeping people involved in sporting clubs and community groups and keeping regional communities vibrant.
 
Over the past 12 months there have been numerous reports that highlight the huge opportunities that exist for Australian agriculture to capitalise on the economic growth of Asia and the desire of Asian countries to ensure their food security.

Nationals Statement

The Nationals WA Candidate for Albany, Robert Sutton has welcomed the launch of a Regional Arts Discussion Paper from The Nationals WA today, aimed at increasing investment into the arts.

Robert said The Nationals WA will boost funding by up to $16 million over four years to support regional arts groups, entertainment centres, cultural centres and individual projects, should the party retain the balance of power following the State election in March.

Leader of The Nationals WA Brendon Grylls and Agriculture and Food Minister Terry Redman today launched a landmark agriculture policy that will enable Western Australian farmers capitalise on the economic growth of Asia.

Mr Grylls said if The Nationals WA win the balance of power they would commit $300 million from Royalties for Regions to empower the agricultural sector to realise its potential.

Racing and Gaming Minister Terry Waldron today announced that John Atkins would head the review of the Liquor Control Act.

 Mr Waldron announced in March this year, his intention to commission a full public review of the Act and today’s announcement review committee members and terms of reference constitute the beginning of this process.
