Open to the Minister of Police and Road Safety by Enough is Enough organisation.

I now take this opportunity with the election in sight to reiterate those ideas, particularly given the horrific start to the year on WA roads, the worst in the nation. Enough is Enough WA Inc. represents over 5,600 members, including many victims of road tragedies. We are calling on the Western Australian Government to consider the proposals outlined below in an effort to save lives, and work with the community towards a zero toll future on WA roads.

SES is a National Brand and the SES Volunteers must remain in this identity and not only perform the roles of their brothers and sisters in other States but be seen to do so as SES in Orange.

The SES evolved out of the Civil Defence days and the Volunteers are both altruistic in their nature and community minded.

They say that ignorance is bliss and sometimes I would say this is true. It's lovely to live in a little bubble of the idealistic world where nothing horrible ever happens and everything lives peacefully. Then this bubble is broken and you find out about things that appall you and you realise that your ideal world is not as ideal as you think it is. As a teenager finding out about live export from one of those shows on TV showing how awful it is for the animals was one of my bubble poppings.

I want to preface this article by noting a couple of aspects of rural life and statistics which impact the way in which this issue is reported, and indeed the view from which I personally perceive this issue. Firstly, the numbers that I use are only estimates. I have spent time trawling through my memory bank and Facebook friends to find out exactly who has left the Kojonup district for the purpose of education. I would say that the number I have worked out is slightly lower than the actual figure itself. There are a lot of people who have moved that I am either unaware of, or didn’t know about. I should also note that the figure I will be using is an estimate of how many people have left Kojonup for educational purposes who were most likely present on Census night in 2006, but not present in Kojonup at the time of the 2011 census.
