Government Strips Planning Decision From Locals (Pt 2)

In Part 2 of the WA Government stripping planning laws for local Councils Subiaco Mayor Henderson articulates her shock at treatment received from the Western Australian Government, and criticises the undemocratic approach.

Subiaco which is also famous for Dadour Bill on local government is highly critical of the WA Government intransigence on the matter.

After being one of the few Councils to look at amalgamation, go through a due diligence process, and putting it to the electors, which ultimately rejected amalgamation, the Council was then ostracized by the State Government.

Subiaco which has a 160 year history was unable to obtain community support for Colin Barnett's wish to have Council amalgamations.

Mayor Henderson was critical of Premier Barnett's refusal to discuss Local Government reform before the WA March election.

The video below is her 10 minute speech at the Western Suburb Alliance forum in November 2012.

The #wa2013vote website will be kept online so politicians promises and statements can be checked until the end of next WA election in 2017, and after.
