Minister Minister for Regional Development and Lands Brendon Grylls has directly contributed to the increase in food prices for Western Australian.

Grylls has put the lease cost of farmers up by amounts of up to 700%.

Not only are housing costs going up for Western Australians, which Premier Barnett has described as not being in crisis, the current WA Government has allowed unprecedented increase in land rental costs used for food production.

These increases which amount to ten of thousands of dollars are directly passed on by increased food cost to Western Australian consumers.

Western Australia’s peak conservation group has welcomed commitments to overhaul the native forest logging industry from Labor Leader Mark McGowan.

Conservation Council director Piers Verstegen said “Labor’s forest policy recognises that the current logging industry is not sustainable, and needs a complete overhaul to protect jobs and prevent wildlife extinction.

Labor Statement

A McGowan Government will further reform WA's liquor laws to provide for safer venues and cut red tape for restaurants and bars, WA Labor Leader Mark McGowan said today.

Mr McGowan said under WA Labor, restaurants will be able to serve liquor without a meal and patrons will be able to walk between tables carrying a drink.

Liberal Statement

A Liberal Government, if re-elected, will raise the payroll tax threshold to $800,000 in 2014-15 and then $850,000 in 2016-17.

Treasurer Troy Buswell said more than 16,000 employers would save $121million through this tax relief measure, building on the $250million in tax relief provided over the last four years.

WAFIC CEO Mark Tucek said while the professional fishing sector generally supports the Government’s commitment to the protection of the iconic Horizontal Falls at Talbot Bay in the Kimberley, future such decisions that permanently change the potential use of a State-owned resource requires a different approach.

MLC Lynn McLaren has sought evidence from Minister for Commerce Simon O'Brien that small business is having success from Sunday trading.

Minister O'Brien had stated in parliament that 'the first three months of the Sunday trading regime that was introduced has been overwhelmingly successful; indeed, more so than we had anticipated'.
